"Lackmond Products Inc. had been in business since 1994 and we had grown to a point where help was needed with order processing. Over the years, we kept adding safeguards to this process. As new problems arose from our growth and the number of orders received per day significantly increased, our process was taking too long and was being weighed down by too much paper.


We engaged Denise Foley with Knowledge Experience Value (KEV) to conduct a Process Triage to resolve the issue.  All department heads were brought together to break down each piece of paper, person and procedure that was involved in moving an order from reception to shipping to billing. I was initially concerned about the process interrupting the daily flow of business but soon discovered it would not be the case. At its conclusion, I was presented with a map showing all touches of an order in our existing system along with a new map of the proposed new process with action points needed to be changed along with a timeline of priority.


At the end of the Process Triage we were able to act on 15 of the 18 changes needed. We eliminated 80% of the paper and cut touches down to 3. Additionally, because of the changes, 90% of mistakes were eliminated and orders moved through with ease. Collection problems due to errors in our process were all but gone. The time and expense was well spent."

The Process Triage method that you facilitated for us is a very helpful new tool we now have in our tool box.  As I suspected, we only needed one big new idea to come out of this to more than pay for the training.  In fact, several new big ideas were realized that will significantly move the needle.  With your help, we have identified several pain points, team members have taken ownership of them and they are implementing them in the order of those with the largest impact first.

 

The graphical map of our NPD process that you provided us has generated some unexpected benefits.  For example, we have used it for training other team members.  In addition, customers quickly see it as further evidence of our commitment to quality and continuous improvement.  Originally, we were hoping this Process Triage would help us get new products to market quicker.  It has done that as well as make the entire NPD process more efficient and less costly.  Because of the effectiveness, we have now used this methodology on other processes.  Getting all of the stake holders together to brain-storm solutions from the bottom up instead of taking orders from the top down has proved the value of Process Triage.  Another big insight from all of this is that finding the correct priority to work on pain points has proven to be most effective when everyone has a "vote".
